Hi Duh People,

I'm Vishvas (He/Him/His). This is me in this picture, along with my wife Romica and our toddler daughter Evelyn.

I'd like to start by sharing that I'm a patient first! As a Research Scientist by profession and at heart, I love what I do, and it's a huge part of my life.

From left: Me (Vishvas), my wife (Romica), and our daughter (Evelyn)

My biggest motivations are driving cutting-edge innovations and working with extremely talented colleagues.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have immigrated to the United States for my graduate studies and to have built a good life for myself and my family. America truly is the land of opportunities!

In my personal life, I am a millennial, a son, brother, husband, cat parent, and father of a toddler and a newly born infant in summer of 2023.

I live with my wife, our two kids, and our two cats. Both my wife's and my parents still reside in India, where we were born. Whenever we find time in our busy schedules, we cherish moments spent together.

I have been dealing with allergic rhinitis since childhood. Growing up in India, I vividly recall waking up to intense sneezing fits, sometimes sneezing 15-20 times in a row.

My mother, who also struggled with similar issues, would worry about me. Eventually, the sneezing would subside, and I'd go about my day feeling normal. This would happen quite often, but the episodes seemed random.

After moving to the United States for graduate studies, my allergies initially seemed to be under control. However, in the last 3-4 years, they have returned with a vengeance.

Two years ago, I decided to consult an otolaryngologist. After undergoing a skin test that involved about 50 needle pricks on my back, I discovered I was allergic to an extensive list of allergens, including my cats, trees, dust, mold, mites, and more.

At the moment, it was disheartening to realize how pervasive my allergies were.

Since then, I've been proactive in managing my allergies by implementing various strategies and adapting my environment to minimize my exposure to allergens.

I don't usually discuss my health issues, but allergic rhinitis is hard to hide.

I was offered a 5-year immunotherapy treatment but decided to try making changes on my own instead. This was a personal decision of mine that I will share through my writings in detail one day! For now, we should know that immunotherapy is the closest to a "cure" for allergic rhinitis.

Despite my allergic rhinitis, I'm truly grateful for the wonderful life I have. My personal experience with allergic rhinitis is the first inspiration to start We Duh People.

Recently, I learned a scientific fact: Only 12% of people in America are proficiently health literate.

That means, up to about 9 in 10 patients (remaining 88%) could be unaware of the scientifically best approaches to make informed decisions regarding their allergic rhinitis.

This fact is my second inspiration to start We Duh People – to empower all allergic rhinitis patients to make informed decisions regarding their condition.

I founded We Duh People for people like me – those who suffer from allergic rhinitis. I have a wonderful life because I feel privileged to have awareness, resources, and support to make informed decisions about my allergic rhinitis.

Through We Duh People, I would like to enable all allergic rhinitis patients have a wonderful life by taking control of their nasal allergies.

The Purpose of We Duh People is to Empower Allergic Rhinitis Patients Take Control of Their Nasal Allergies

We Duh People is a humble and honest attempt to empower all allergic rhinitis patients to take control of their allergies by enabling them to make informed decisions about their health.

Allergic Rhinitis Affects Each Person Differently

Each individual's experience with allergic rhinitis is unique, as they may be allergic to different allergens or varying numbers of allergens.

For example, after taking a skin prick test to evaluate my sensitivity to 20+ allergens, I discovered I was allergic to 10+ allergens, including grass, trees, pollens, and cat dander. My personalized management plan for allergic rhinitis would look very different from someone who is allergic to other allergens or a single allergen.

Understanding our allergic rhinitis better allows us to make informed decisions about our condition. By making informed decisions, we can more effectively manage our allergic rhinitis symptoms.
